Day 80: Dyeing twice is nice! (shirt refashion)

I love dyeing fabric. It is an addiction! I minored in chemistry in college and loved organic chemistry. So much I took as much as I could. Dyeing fabric is like me going back to organic chemistry lab. We totally extracted dye from plants, etc. Way too much fun!

Enter this large white shirt I found. And it is all cotton. Oh yeah time to dye.

I had some olive green dye from dylon in my stash and I thought I would give it a try.
I did not like it. The color did not work.I looked sick in the color. It doesn't work.

So I tried adding blue over it. Using Dylong again. Ocean Blue.

It did not stain that dark.again! I followed the instructions exactly. I am an experienced dyer. No idea. Never again using it. Then! Argh stains which didn't pop up until it was dry. Why??

But moving along..

Sew and Serge!

Done!

I have no idea why camera decided it did not want to focus. What you may not see so well is the details on the sleeves didn't take the dye so they pop out with the color. I am very tempted to just dye it black. I can't make up my mind, I really wish the other colors came out darker. This is a 100% cotton-it should have been intense.  Stay tuned I may go for "Third time dyeing is a charm".  Hmm who knows! For more of my 90 days to DC blogging projects click here. BTW 10 more days left! Yay! I need to pack more!

xoxoxo,
Lauren

  1. I've never used Dylon. Is it like Rit? Multi-fabric? I've used Procion MX for dyeing cotton, it works great.

  2. its supposed to be like rit but it is not! The other 2 bags I had of dye I gave away. Not worth it. I have always had success with RIT
