True Bias Hudson Pants

OK I finally got a day with SOME light. Keyword SUM. Wow the weekends have been kind of dark, not a lot of sun and light. It has been rough, yesterday we had some light and we also had some snow! I got a few pictures. It feels like it has been forever since I took photographs. And I just feel goofy. Plain ol' goofy. Sigh.

I did some sewing on my Christmas break. Now finally get some pictures and here come some blog posts! Yay!

First is the True Bias pattern- the hudson pant. They are supposed to be like a pair of sporty, track pants. I purchased it in a pattern parcel, actually pattern parcel #6

This was such a wonderful parcel b/c I have done the Syrah maxi skirt, the bronte top, the Julia cardigan. Today I did the pants and I have actually done the Zsalya dress/top. So 5 out of 6. The only one I have not done is the unlocked bonus dress pattern. Definitely got my money's worth out of this parcel. :)

So I made the pants and I totally messed up on trying to get the pattern to match from the front to back. Oh well. The pattern is for someone who is 5'6" so I added 2 inches to the length. I am glad I did. I screwed up the buttonholes with the ties and I didn't do the tiered sewing of the belt. I left as is. I am overall very happy with the pants. I am really happy I went with black accents to compliment the pattern. The fabric is so soft- I actually purchased it from another person of the Knitfix group.

Overall they are great pants. They are comfy and the fit is spot on. Just like the picture. But for some reason I feel like they look like PJ pants. Cute PJs, but PJs. I don't know if I could wear them out yet. The debate is still out. I go back and forth. For right now, I am wearing them chilling in the house being super comfy.

Red Syrah Maxi Skirt

Last year I bought Pattern Parcel #6, which I have used 2 of the patterns already. I probably will make all of the patterns out of this parcel, which surprises me. This was a great pattern parcel! I made the Bronte top (see here) and also the Julia cardigan (see here). So this was a good pattern set. Today I will do #3, the Syrah skirt from Baste and Gather. I know I have made maxi skirts before but I thought I would try another pattern.

So Syrah skirt it is. I used this thin, red knit. I used it to make my boyfriend a shirt (which you will see soon). It is a gorgeous color of crimson! I added 3 inches to the hem since I am tall. I opted for a simple even hem, then a simple waste band- the foldover, and a lining. It was a really easy sew even though I got a little confused with the wasteband but then it clicked. The fit is perfect. I did not hem but left it raw as my experience with this fabric it does not sew with a twin needle- yeah it is that thin. So I wanted to have it hang nicely, so we left it raw.

I love the lining with it, I thought i would not like it but turns out I did. I like having that extra layer and it isn't too tight so I like that. I paired it with a simple top I made awhile back (see here). It fits great!

The band for the waist. Fits well and no muffin top. ;)

I really hate taking after photos, seriously. But I would recommend this pattern!

The Bronte top

I feel slightly victorious that I have been able to keep up with blogging. And a little bit of sewing too! :) Yay!

My next pattern is the Bronte top from Jennifer Lauren Vintage.

Again it was part of a pattern parcel. This was a really awesome pattern parcel.

I used another knit from my knits I purchased from G street fabrics that one shopping trip. :) I am still working through these fabrics!

I used the pink and royal blue chevron like fabric. But it was thin so I selected another pink fabric to line underneath. So double cutting, but I also used the pink for the binding strips. I thought it would be a fun twist of a vintage pattern with a modern, funky fabric. It was pretty easy to sew. The size was spot on and perfect! LOVE! That's why I sewing independent patterns!

Here is my new shirt! I know it is a bit bright but I love it!

I got a lot of compliments on this top. Really comfy too. I am really happy with the outcome and I will make again. I will try for a long sleeve probably this winter.

Summer Concert Tee

I have had this shirt sadly done for a while I just keep forgetting to take a photo. This pattern was from a pattern parcel that I purchased last year. The pattern is from Dixie DIY.

I added a few inches to the bottom but I did in wrong in hindsight. I used this very thin almost tissue knit fabric. It was an easy sew- I sewed an XS b/c it appeared big from some of the reviews I have read. I am happy with the results of the pattern, the fabric on the other hand is really thin and grabs things. I have to wear a tank top underneath. I also didn't properly adjust the length addition- if you can see in the pictures, the side hem comes up high and then goes back down. It was worse and that was my fix. Guess pattern drafting is still something I need to learn. ;)

I would definitely do this pattern again with a heavier knit (and not tissue knit which didn't take well with the double needle). But easy sew!

Lady Skater Dress in tribal tophat knit fabric

Last year I purchased a set of patterns from pattern parcel. I am trying to support more indie designers. The first parcel had some awesome patterns! It has taken me long to actually get to sewing.

But one day while going through my knit fabric (that I got from G Street fabrics with a Groupon) I saw this tribal knit fabric and thought, BOOM, made the lady skater dress! I call this the top hat as the longer I stared at the fabric there looked like there was a man with a top hat on....

So I picked pattern #1, the lady skater by Kitschy Coo. The fabric was thin so I had to double up on thickness, both top and bottom. I opted for 3/4 length sleeves.

This pattern was easy to cut and easy to sew. The pictures in the tutorial was a bit hard to follow and I thought it could be better drawn out for clarity. If you are a beginner sewer you might get confused. The only thing I did not do was add the clear elastic- I did not have any on hand. I did add tricot ribbon at the shoulders to assist with the drooping from the weight. I did not add length but it is made for 5'5" and I am 5'8". I actually like where it falls, I think it compliments my height well. Too long of skirts on me, don't work with my dimensions. Here is one photo of me cutting the skirt. Everything again is doubled because the fabric is thin. The only thing that is not double are the sleeves.

Here is my new dress! It fits like a glove and I got exactly what the picture showed.

OMG I want to make more of these!!! I am already searching for other knits in my stash. I might make the cap sleeve version next. I highly recommend this pattern! This will be my MGAM for February. Wahoo!!! I love sewing easy dresses. This dress is super easy to sew.
