Too much cuff in the pants.... #s 75/76

Hey, so how about Two for Tuesday yesterday? Well since I am playing blog catch up, let's do it again! Here is another 2 more refashions! Since they are the same concept, it will be one post.

First pair.... too much cuff in the pants. These cuffs caught everything and made me almost trip. Not to mention lint traps. I needed to do something else about them.

I mean look at the size of that cuff!!! With very few tacks! They just sort of flapped in the breeze. Um no.

Undid the hem(s!!!) with a seam ripper- check how long they actually are! Next, I tapered in a little of the legs- both inside and outside leg seams.

I cut off the bottom portion and hemmed it. I even attempted to figure it out on my blind hem foot on my sewing machine. Yeah I have to still work that out. Brain hurts. LOL Ahhhh so much nicer.

Now I liked it so much, I repeated with another pair of grey pants. Too long to just right!!... These had a weird bell shape to them at the very bottom so I just let the thighs be... and the thighs needed to just be....

Now at least I have pants that are of less of a danger to myself and others. I can always use more pants, winter is coming! Here is the recap!

BTW 3/4 done

2 button down tops, # 73 & 74

A tale of 2 button down tops... Both just needed a little bit of tailoring in order for a better fit. Neither needed something with the sleeves. I just needed to remove some of the boxiness.

First a white and grey flannel shirt.

And a nice striped work shirt.

Both of them I started to sew right at the armholes and brought it in. Each had about a good 3-4 inches at the waist.

Then to fix the uneven hem, I serged off the bottom of the shirts to make it even. Then fold up and sew. Ironing helped this a lot. Done!!

First the grey flannel shirt. OMG it is soo warm. 

Fit is nice. Just right.

Blue Linen Skirt, refashion #72

Alright got off my lazy bum and decided to take some after pictures. Now I will say for many of these upcoming pictures, I didn't boether to do my hair. I have issues holding the brush for long periods of time, I sort of have to pick my battles. All good. At least I am getting things done!

Now first I grabbed this blue linen skirt. I actually despise linen as it is always wrinkled. Always wrinkled. To me- not worth the battle. I would be a hot mess before I even made it to work.

And on top of it it had a fake tie, buttons and pockets. Meh... The tie and buttons came off. As did the top of the pocket. After much thinking on this skirt, I need to cover them up.

Then while cleaning and sorting my craft room, I came across this old piece of  lace that I actually dyed back when I was in Alabama (more than 2 years) that came out an awesome purple color. I just didn't know what I was going to do with it. Ding! Cover up the linen skirt! So I sewed the top of the lace to the top of the skirt. This began to take in the skirt some.

Cut off the bottom of the skirt and made it a little less A-line by sewing inside. The hardest part was tackling the zipper. But I sewed it under at the zipper on each side. Snipped it end of the zipper. Sewed a seam. Squared away the bottom lace because it didn't perfectly line up. Hem the linen. Done!

 Now this is a linen skirt I would wear! 

I actually didn't know how to style this so I just added a white shirt. 

The back which looks horrible in the picture but I promise you doesn't look this bad. What did I do?

Black Forest Smoothie

This is from the Deliciously G- Free book. Black Forrest Shake.

Ingredients:
1 c frozen cherries
1.5 c skim milk
1/2 ripe avocado, pitted and peeled
1 tbs cocoa powder
1 tbs light brown sugar
4 ice cubes

You could not taste the avocado for real. It totally had the black forest cake taste which was impressive. The only issue was the blending of the cocoa powder. It tended to clump and you would get the clumps in the smoothie, I may have a blender that stinks, which is possible, Until it breaks or we get married and we can add it to a wedding registry we are stuck with this one.
I would recommend- I was stuffed for a long time with this smoothie.

Moon Rabbit Pizza Crust

Trying out another pizza crust- from Moon Rabbit Foods. it can also make Focaccia. The directions are easy to follow but rolling it out was impossible. I tried to use wax paper- that did not help. Still wound up with a decent pizza.

It cooked well, just a smidge too late in the oven by me. The crust was thick- I thought I was almost eating a real pizza. LOL.

Not bad, just needs more flavor in the crust in my opinion. I did enjoy the thicker crust.
It is a maybe for me. If I was to find it on clearance I would consider buying it again.

Refashions and sewing on its way

Hi everyone! Now I mentioned it in a previous post, but almost 3 weeks ago I sliced the corner portion of my thumb (yes it still gives me chills saying it!) while cutting apples to make apple chips. Sigh. Recovery has been slow but I have gone done a positive recovery path. Which is fabulous but it will be long. I have had to learn how to adapt. My boyfriend helps me get ready in the morning still. One day I will be able to wear earrings that I can put on myself. Overall now my pain is low until I try to use it and then we hurt and still it is not the normal way to do things I have new hand stresses that just exhaust me and cause pain. Fun!

I have not been sewing. Until the past weekend. I am slow but I am managing. Prior to the accident I actually had just finished 3 refashions but did not take any photos. I was able to finish a few so they are on the way! I was too tired to take photos this weekend- bravo fall weather for making me just want to cuddle with my family and watch TV!

But here is a teaser of some of the clothing I refashioned (or about done!).

Butternut Squash Gnocchi

I miss gnocchi and though I would try this option.

Again, the recipe is from the gluten free bible.

So you can see the recipe in the picture, the rest of the ingredients are
juice of 1 lemon
1/4 c shredded parmesan cheese

1. Cut up squash and put in microwave bowl- this took forever. next time i'll roast in the oven. It was painfully long. Cover with vented plastic wrap. Microwave for 7 minutes or until tender. Let stand for 10 minutes, drain.
2. Press squash through ricer into bowl. Add 1 c rice flour, 2 tsp salt, xantham gum, & pepper. Mix.
3. Dust the heck out of cutting board. And keep it handy b/c you will need it badly.
4. Cut into smaller pieces and work in batches. Roll into rope and cut to 3/4 inch pieces. Your hands will be very dirty and hence why no pictures.
5. Boil up some salted water.  Drop gnocchi into water and cook for 2.5 minutes or until they float. Remove with spoon.
6. In skillet, add everything else beginning first with butter. Add gnocchi, toss to coat and cook for about 2 minutes,
7. Top with Parmesan. Serve

This is awesome but I didn't care for the lemon butter. I won't do it again. The next day I added a tomato basil sauce and I thought it complemented the squash better.
OMG delicious and better than potato!!!! Definitely recommend!
