Well hi welcome to my little blog. Just my little corner of craftiness, sewing, and refashioning. I am also a newly gluten free eater so you have a little bit of recipes mixed in here.

The Julia Cardigan

Yeah got some sewing for myself. Don't have a heart attack that it is another post within a week! Yeah! I made the Julia Cardigan from Mouse House Creations.

It was part of a pattern parcel and I liked the options for the sleeves. Also, the open front cardigan was a different design.I miss pattern parcels! I love supporting independent artists.

So I made one for myself with a light grey and white striped light weight knit.

The front view. Nice and easy

It was a super easy, I was just too lazy to style it. I really wanted picture time to be over.

Now the story is not over. For mother's day (yes I have slacked that long with photos, don't judge) I made a cardigan for my mom. Actually, I made her 2 cardigans as she couldn't decide which color she wanted. Since it is my mom, I said I'll make you 2!

I first began cutting this gorgeous blue knit. You can see the pattern pieces and everything that it entails It takes a bit more fabric than I thought it would.

Here are the end cardigans I made for my mom. The other one was with the tribal top hat fabric I had used to make a skater dress (click here).
Not going to lie that I was super jealous my mom got the tribal cardigan. I seriously love that fabric. I am out of it now. At best, it might be an accent for something else or maybe if I want to try some undergarments. My mom got a lot of compliments on the tribal cardigan.

Ahoy! A shorts refashion

Well I am sort of back! :)
When I first purchased these pants for $1, I thought maybe they were cullotes. I know they are making their way into the pattern world and this girl will not be wearing them anytime soon. But no, they are just a pair of wide-leg pants. With a fun sailor-like button detail.

They fit well with my hips and were so wide-legged that I realized that I could just cut off the legs and turn them into a pair of cute shorts. Ding! That is what I did. Simply cut off the bottom, which took me 2 cuts. Then hem and this was a tiny hem as I sort of cut a little short.

Done! Dang I love these shorts! They are so cute! Shorts are so difficult to find- I have had zero luck with patterns. I am still detailed to find a pattern but until then, these shorts are great!

Recap! Yeah it was nice to sew and this was a quick and easy refashion. And the weather is great to wear them!

Cheers,
Lauren

Expect a few more blog posts to begin to trickle in since I got the courage to take pictures. :)

A pathetic blog

Well hello. Welcome to my almost non-existent blog. I know it has been sad. A sad, sad truth. There has been a lot going on.... I went away for training. As I went away for this training, I caught this doozy of a head cold. It was bad, I went through an entire box of tissues in a single day. It was not a small box of tissues. There was a horrible snow storm, the day of my first class. I tried my hardest to just drag myself to class, make it through class, come back to the hotel and just sleep. I thought I was getting better, but when I got home I relapsed.

I never recovered, I only got worse. Then everything was a struggle. I began to loose my breathe doing the simplest of tasks. I went to the doctor when I realized there was no recovering and I was diagnosed with bronchitis. There was a possible hint of pneumonia in my right lung. There was no sewing or anything  I did start my tshirt quilt. I have not finished it....

I did get part of my New Years Resolutions, I read a book!! For fun!! Crazy right? Well I had a long train ride and this was a great way to pass the time. So I read a book for fun. I know I am behind the times but I also don't read for fun. It is always science related. And then maybe sewing.

I also had a come to Jesus moment. I sewed and refashioned a LOT of clothes last year. A lot. It all has to go somewhere, which is my closet (s). I looked at my refashion pile AND my fabric pile, add in no time to sew and then I had a vision- I have too much stuff. This is not what I want and not what I need as a person. So taking a break from sewing and refashioning to go through my closets would not hurt, it would be beneficial. I can officially say I have gotten rid of a lot of clothes. I could probably get rid of more. I have started some refashions and they should be trickling through the blog. I need to get it together and sew some as well. Hopefully that will also begin. But I realized I would rather have things that I love than things I only semi-love wearing. No worries they were all redonated back to stores. I think of it as one less ugly piece of clothing rotating around the world. :)

At least I was able to write this post. Now off to aerial yoga. I am finally getting back to exercising! Yay!

Gluten Free Friday: Chocolate cookies

Today I decided to try out a mix from XO baking co. They tend to be really good with their mixes. And I was so in the mood for chocolate. So double chocolate chip cookie mix here I come.

The directions are easy to follow. It comes with its own chocolate chips. Easy bake and it was accurate. I wish I didn't wait to bake this mix, it has been sitting in my pantry for a few months, because these cookies were SOOOOOO good!

I highly recommend. :) Will do again!

Gluten Free Friday: Bacon-Egg Breakfast muffins

I wanted to try something different for breakfast. I thought I would try these "quichettes" from the gluten free bible.

Cook bacon to your liking (I like mine crispy) and then break into smaller pieces. Cover the bottom of the baking cups with that- divide between 6 cups.

Beat 6 eggs with 1/4 milk (I used 2%). Then add 1.5 cups thawed frozen shredded hash browns (squeezed dry), 1/4 c fresh parsley chopped up, 1/2 tsp salt. Mix well. Spread into all 6 cups as well. Bake for 15 minutes. Add cheese on top, let it melt. Serve!

These were a big hit with my boyfriend, he inhaled them. He says any time I want to make again, he would be cool with that. Seriously, so these were a big hit. I may mess with different additions to this mix, the sky is the limit.

Lauren

Gluten Free Friday! Homemade mac and cheese

I miss a good home made mac-n-cheese. I have been looking for a good recipe when I came across this one in the Deliciously G-Free cookbook.
So I cooked the pasta elbow macaroni but 3 minutes less than the box says. I used an entire box.

Now let's make the sauce- it will all be from scratch.
3 c milk
1 tsp potato starch
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbp butter
2 tbp cream cheese
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
3 cups cheddar cheese

Whisk milk, potato starch, and salt in bowl. In a stock pot melt butter and cream cheese. Slowly whisk in the milk mixture. Add spices. Reduce to low heat and add cheese. Cook for about 3 minutes. Add cooked pasta to sauce and transfer to a baking dish. Cook for 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Serve!

Love!!! Just love!!! The spices really add some dimension to the mix, much more grownup than something out a box. It makes a lot so it took me some time to eat up, but I was happy to eat it. :)

Cheers,
Lauren
