Bear and crown baby bibs, Butterick B4533

Yup so I am so entailed with my last minute halloween costume that I didn't finish up my posts and get it together. So here is my late posts...Another baby gift, been sewing a lot!



I opted to try this pattern and make 2 of the patterns- the bib and the crown. Now I will preface this will I lost the instructions after I cut the pattern. Yeah true story. So I had to wing it!

For the teddy bears, I never want to see them again. So, at first I embroidered a lot- the pink cheek circles, the eyes, nose, smile. It was absolutely too much and took a lot of time. I figured out how to sew the cheeks via my sewing machine. Then I used paint for the eyes. This then left embroidery of the nose and mouth. Much faster. It was a lot of sewing. Just a lot. After the face was done, then ears were added, then the back, then I attached everything to the front of the bib, then attach the back to the front of the bib. Close and add a snap. Yeah it was that involved. Just wow. I never want to see a bear anytime soon!

Now the crown bibs were way easier. I sewed the front and back of the crown to each other, turned right side out and then attached to the bib. These were super cute.

Overall, I am very happy with this pattern. I love the end products. I just never want to make another Teddy Bear bib again (I made 5 so yes I am over it!). LOL. But something cute and different.

Baby dress with matching bloomers B3405

Been on a small hiatus from myself and was sewing some baby gifts for some friends. There must be something in the water b/c all of a sudden a lot of pregnancies. I set off to make some gifts and I decided I would try out this pattern I had from Butterick. B3405. I opted to make the dress with matching bloomers.



I first made this pattern with the leftover cherry blossom fabric (that I made this dress with).

Next, I made it with this pink gingham fabric I had (and never used)

OMG I loved both of them so much, I almost didn't want to give it away. I know I am horrible person. The dresses were pretty easy sews- the back is all snaps. The pink one I magically got a hole (??? out of no where) so I had to adjust where the snaps fell. At least it was in the right spot. My only other criticism of this pattern was the fact that the bloomers didn't have the size of elastic I needed for the legs and waist. It said to measure the baby (a fact near impossible since some were not born yet). If you are sewing for a gift- using this pattern has a few minor snags. So I found another pattern that was older and used those numbers based on weight for size.

I am happy with the outcome! Just way to cute!

Iron on bib fun

Lol just had some fun with some of the iron-on's I have obtained through out my travels.

Here are the end products. Way too fun!

Yeah seriously.  A lot of fun. :) Most are going to charity!

ic '13 #8- baseball bib

This iron craft's challenge was playtime. So we were to make something based on a game, toy, etc. I thought about it and I am on  a kick to make now bibs for charity again. So I thought I would make a something I could put on a bib and something relative easy since time just seems to evade me lately. I decided I would give a try with embroidery to make a baseball bib.

First I started with some cut fabric, just plain white and I fused with the fusible fleece to make it thicker and sturdier. You want a good fabric that can take embroidery. Ok now we are ready to draw some circles. I used a bowl and traced the edge of the bowl with a pencil. I needed it to stay in line.

Time to embroider! I found some red embroidery floss from Sonja's grandmother (which I love a piece of her still lives on!). Now I saw this embroidery on Pinterest here and I thought ok let's try it out. FYI the site is all in asian letters. I can't find another site so I do not know if it is the source. I thank them for putting this out there!

The stitch is really easy. Here I am starting

Sadly my camera died and well I kept going. Basically the baseball stitches go in opposite directions on the sides. I was really impressed that the stitches looked good! OMG LOVE!

So now I need to finish the bib. I attached a white piece of fabric I cut in my massive scrap usage. And then I decided to finish with bias tape. I went into my box and I have no idea how I had no read but I had this lovely blue. Actually I like the color combo

Here it is finished with the bias tape (hey curves are hard!)

Now time to add a snap!

Done! OMG I am seriously happy this idea worked out! Look how great this turned out!

Yay and I finished an iron craft project on time! Yay! :) wahoo! Can't wait for our next challenge!

Sewing for Charity: Bundles of Love

Now many of you may (or may not know) one of my goals this year was to sew more items for charity. I am trying to get rid of my huge fabric stash (and make my boyfriend happy) and I don't want to sew everything for myself. One of the first projects I decided to tackle first was for Bundles of Love. They are a charity organization that gives needy mothers in Minnesota a diaper bag filled with goodies for each child when they leave the hospital. They started out as a little church group but wow took over Minnesota! They are absolutely inspiring and amazing. Please go and check them out! They do offer some patterns for babies online.

Here is my box of goodies I sent them!!! The box is pretty big and I filled it up to the top! Here is what was included in the box!

Yes I know! A lot of things I made out of my own stash! I was so excited to send everything out. :)

Now this summer I am going to actually change the organization I am sewing for to.... Dress a Girl around the World!!! I have a lot of fabric that I would probably never use for myself but would make great little girls dresses! Not to mention I just received a donation of bias tape trim and now I can sew until my heart is content! Wahoo!!! 

I would love love love to sew about 50 dresses this year. I probably have enough fabric to do so since it doesn't take much. I would be incredibly excited if I could do so! So keep your fingers crossed. And maybe with the scraps I could make more bibs. We will see what happens!
