Glue resist dyeing retry- pink tribal shirt

Remember that peacock feather glue resist I did a few weeks back? It sort of worked


Time to retry and also time to try another technique thanks to My Next Style. I received this wonderful pack of spray fabric paint to craft. I chose the Poppy Red.

Now I want to mix the Red with this plain o' tee shirt that is pink. Again just a smidge too big. And boring.

Next time to spray!

I actually needed 2 bottle total for one shirt. So I had to go and get another one. We are done being sprayed.

I let it dry for a solid day/day and a half. Then I washed it in hot water. Which also shrunk this shirt! Here is my finished top! Love it!

Definitely got a nice contrast! Love it. Just wish it was warmer to wear. It is freezing here!

Circle Bead Christmas Tree- Iron Craft Open

Here is what I wanted to do for the last iron craft challenge but I didn't know how to finish it. So I had made the peacock feather ornament. It dawned on me on how to finish it and since this iron craft challenge is open (or past) I decided this could qualify for the holidays and also UFO b/c it was totally unfinished until this past week.

First I had all of these circle metal beads that a long, long time ago I had purchased for a bellydance costume. I had a huge stash of them. I never used them b/c in order for these medallions to look nice on a bra of a costume they would need to bend- easier said than done. Instead they languished in my bead stash until I could figure out what to do with them. One night they were all on the floor and it hit me, I could turn it into a tree and use it for Christmas decor. So I pulled out my jump rings and started to connect them. One by one.

I used up my jump ring stash significantly. Which was great! Once I got the hang of this, connecting them together was easy. Now I was done with my tree but upon hanging the sides curled. Which I dont have a picture of, I had lost my camera and was only using my cell phone. This is where I got stumped. But then it hit me, I would put it on canvas and hang it up that way.

I found a canvas that was 60% off at Michaels that day plus an additional 25% off. Wahoo.

But I would like to cover it first, so I used a scrap piece of green velvet that was in my stash. It made the silver circles pop. First I cut a piece that was large enough to cover the canvas and then some. I added 2 pieces of fusible fleece and then a piece of interface to stiffen it up.

Ironing left marks so I went with it and gave the velvet an all around texture with iron marks

Now I am ready to attach my circles to the velvet. It was nice and thick so it could hold the weight of the metal. I laid out my tree, and tacked it down with silver thread. It was thicker thread, which I ran out of but then I used some white iridescent embroidery floss to finish up.

This actually didn't take long. I started at the bottom, went around the perimeter, then tacked inside the tree. I had put it on my ironing board and balanced with my leg that was crossed over each other while I sat. So I access on the top and bottom and could quickly sew up and down. After beading many dance costumes this was easy. Call it my stupid super human power.

Done! Now to attach to the canvas. I centered it and applied a layer of tacky glue and let the fabric/canvas dry over night. To help with the gluing, I actually turned everthing over so the tree was on the table and the canvas was on top, I placed books to help it get a solid hold. Sorry for no pics, I thought I took a picture of this!! But allowing it to dry upside down (face first) ensured that I didn't get a sagging or droopy canvas. Next I used my staple gun and finished the sides up.

Done! Tada!

I am super happy with the outcome and now those metal medallions have been used. Love my new Christmas decor! :)

Only 1 more Iron Craft left for the rest of the year! I am excited!

Gluten Free Cookie Review

Today I am reviewing these double chocolate cookies. I was super excited.

The cookies come in wrapped trays.

OMG these were awful. Just plain awful. Bad cardboard. I threw them away!! That's how bad they were. I do not recommend.

Roll tide baseball tee- New Look 6230

Next sewing project was using more of the houndstooth fabric I had.


Don't let the pattern number fool you, my pattern had 0915 on the outside but the inside said 6230. Grr. I used the houndstooth you have previously seen with my leggings. I have plenty leftover. I decided to make myself an Alabama Football Inspired baseball tee (which btw why would you pair it with a pencil skirt like this pattern does???). I used the red poly interlock you saw with the drapey vogue maxi dress for the sleeves. Here is my new top to watch college football in! Yeah!

Easy Peak Open Top, simplicity 1589

Trying out a new pattern. It is one of those easy "learn to sew" patterns from simplicity. I really thought this shirt was cute.

I had some scrap fabric that literally I was scrambling to make it work, but I did for both. The pattern didn't call for fusible interface so I decided to add it to the back. I might not do that next time. So I selected just cotton. Both are different thicknesses and you will see the difference in how it hangs. As you can see here I have little fabric left (just those silvers).

Here's the flower pattern. This would be cute with my bright blue pants.

Actually those pants would work with this version too! 

Easy top. Sewing it was ridiculously fast. Cute and fits well. I would like to try this with something thinner that would drape better. I think it would fall better. But I like the shape of it. I love the way it looks from the back!

My first shoe refashion

My first shoe refashion. I have some odd feet and finding shoes that I like and fit me is a challenge. I don't thrift shoes, that is my only no I won't do. I just don't want things to be worn out before I get them. I had these metallic flats which are fabulous to walk in and had plenty of use left in them. But I took a bit of a hit which made the metallic come off badly on one side. I was sad but they were ugly.

I decided to use Tulip Soft Fabric paint in black. And also black sparkly paint to cover on top. Really it was pretty easy. I just went up to the buckle. :)

Here they r done. Fixed until I wear them out walking.

Leggings- McCalls pattern- 2 pairs of pants!!! OOH!

Yay more sewing! I want more leggings b/c they go well with boots and long tunics and short dresses. But spending $$ on leggings that are see-through sort of anger me. So many that I have found are just a little too sheer for me. And the ones I have found, $50 is ridiculous for pants. I have found some great knit fabric on sale at Hancock and also JoAnn Fabrics. I said I will make them myself.

I found this great pattern by McCalls which further convinced me this was a great idea. I picked it up during the $0.99 sale. Boom

I picked up 2 knits on sale. Grey and black houndstooth and grey and white snowflake. I opted for the scrunched version just because I wanted to make my pants long for my legs. I did not want them to be short. And yes they were long!!

This pattern is so easy to do. Here are my houndstooth

Here are the snowflake which I managed to decently match up and make even. 

They are still a bit big and I need to take them in more. I already did but it looks like I need more. The top of the pants fit well but the legs too loose.

I did a medium based on measurements and the fact that the fabric was not super stretchy. I should have done a small or XS. If I do these again, I would definitely go a smaller size. Love my leggings. Total cost was less than $10 including the pattern. Definitely recommend!
