Oh yeah, striped maxi skirt

I am back in town. Tired. Confused on the day and time and trying to get back to reality. I had this blue and green striped knit fabric in my stash forever (came from that lady!) and didn't know what I was going to do with it. Then I realized it was thin, didn't have a lot of stretch and was slightly see through. I also had a lot of this fabric. I couldn't help myself with this easy sew deciding to use up the fabric for a maxi skirt.. Because it really is that easy, especially since I worked out the sizes. I have made this skirt before see my chevron skirt.

Since it was see through- I have a layer underneath the skirt. This was perfect for traveling. It was a bit chilly when I left so this was great to stay warm with the slight chill.

Yup on the phone taking pics. Hey I didn't have a lot of time. As you can see the fabric pulls back, which was odd, but I could live with it.

Paired with a jacket and I was ready to go. Actually when I left I paired the skirt with my pink faux leather jacket. It was super cute!

Ok who is ready to leave for travel. 

Yeah used a lot of this fabric. Which is good. I may try to make an easy top or else I will turn it into boy bibs, which it is hard to always have good fabric for boys. Ok I have a lot to catch up with, meh.

SNL skit Retro Striped Dress, refashion #5

#5 here we come! I found this long sleeved stripped dress and was just attracted to it. It had a feeling that it came off an snl sketch. But I loved it.

Yes don't they go together? So as I took this snl skit worthy dress I realized I wanted to keep its retro feeling. I decided for now to keep the sleeves on (though I think it would make a fabulous sleeveless dress-it is just cold outside, I need sleeves) and take some of the bottom off. 

I marked where I wanted it to fall. Made a line. Cut off! Then simply serged the bottom. Folded it up and sew the hem down. It wasn't hard but it is a circle skirt so you just have to watch out. 

done!! LOVE!

Hey....

Popping my collar!!

Oh!! Didn't tell you! It has POCKETS!!! I laugh b/c I was watching an episode of Project Runway All Stars when Nick Cannon was a guest judge. He asked the others if pockets were the bomb for women's dress. All the ladies (including Isaac Mizrahi) unanimously said YES!!!!

Added a belt, and the dress works. (just now no ghost orb in the picture)

In the end, something simple as a hem turned this dress into something I will wear!

Take one down sew it around, 94 left!!!

Easy Striped Skirt Refashion

I had this skirt that I got and it is a weird length so I wore it as a strapless dress for a long time with a belt. But after a while, it got old and I wanted it as a regular skirt. I love stripes!

So I marked where I thought where it would be good to end with some pins.

I cut it off about a strip or 2 below that mark (to account for the hem allowance!) Here are the 2 pieces. I will probably use the rest for bibs. It is a nice boy fabric. :)

I folded over the short white line and ironed. 

Then I folded it under and ironed again. The bottom of the skirt will be a white line now when we are done. 

Sew

Easy peasy, lemon breezy. Skirt done. Good length for work. Can't wait to style it for the fall. 

It is a simple skirt refashion. And yes the length makes all the difference. Now I do feel a little bit hippy  but I just need to style it right. Can't wait to pair it with some knee boots, a sweater or a cardigan and a great scarf. Perfect for fall.

Day 84: My DIY Maxi Skirt

I completely made this up. I wanted to use this fun fabric and make a skirt out of it. It was long enough to make a long skirt. I had a long piece of elastic and thought I would try it! Let's wing it! First even out the top and bottom

Next line up the elastic with the top of the fabric. This is a super stretchy fabric so I don't need to stretch while I sew it I used my elastic stitch.

I had a lot of extra fabric and elastic so I tried to drape the excess and I stretched the rest of the elastic over the waist.

I tacked down in several areas with my machine.

So here is my skirt. It is super comfy and perfect for lounging in the house getting things done at the end of the day or during the weekend. Not bad!

Alternatively, where the excess fabric is where I have place on my bum, I can also wear it as a slit on my leg. And yes there are no side seams in this skirt. The only thing I sewed was the elastic! The extra fabric covers over each other. For more of my 90 days of blogging click here.
